Police have received a report that a computer email scam is being sent out.The email suggests the user has visited a pornographic website recently where a virus has been downloaded to their computer.The email is blackmailing the user to pay an amount in bitcoins ( This is money that can be purchased to be used online). The amount will also be shown in US Dollars – Suggesting this scam has originated outside the UK. Police advice is not to open any attachments to emails that you do not trust. Never reply to these emails. It is best note the content of the message and then to delete these emails. These reports can be directed to Action Fraud and details can be found at: http://bit.ly/2UStPrH. If an attachment has been opened, run your anti virus program to check for an virus attacking your computer. If you unsure how to do this contact a computer specialist. The offenders normally state they can send any incriminating evidence of you to all your contacts as they have hacked your email account. You can protect yourself by regularly changing passwords on your computer. You can also block these type of emails and mark them as spam. The computer should then automatically send the emails into a spam folder , which is then automatically deleted after a period of time.

The main advice is: Do not respond or send any money. Do not open any attachments. Note content of email and delete. Have anti virus software on your computer. Report these incidents to Action Fraud online.
