Rogue Traders (Gloucestershire Constabulary)

by andrewdoherty on 22 March, 2019

This is a message from the Fairford & Lechlade Neighbourhood Policing Team.

On 21st March at approx 11am, a male knocked on the door of an elderly lady in Elizabeth Gardens, Meysey Hampton and said he would clean her gutters for her. He showed her the equipment he would use and said it would cost her £1500. When she told him she didn’t have that kind of money on her, he asked if he could take her to the bank to get some money out. Thankfully, she said no and he left.

At this time we have no vehicle details or much of a description of this male, other than he was quite small, but we are urging people to call the police should anyone turn up to your door and make such demands. Please do not let them into your property and do not give them any money or allow them to take you to a bank/cashpoint.

If you need work doing to your property, please use reputable companies that you have researched, read any testimonies about their work and get various quotes to ensure that you are paying the most reasonable price. Door to door traders are usually trying to scam people out of money, by quoting vastly overpriced prices for work that is often shoddy and poor quality.

Thank you.
