Theft of mopeds and theft from vans (Gloucestershire Constabulary)

by andrewdoherty on 16 June, 2020

Analysis has highlighted two areas of concern regarding vehicle crime in the last week. Firstly, theft of mopeds from residential properties or shared parking areas. It is unknown if these have been started without keys or wheeled away but please if you own a moped or small motorbike take some time to consider the security you have in place. Can you bring it into the back yard or garden? Can it be secured to a sturdy object or purpose built bay? Secondly, theft from vans. Tradesmen need their kit to work and earn money, loss of kit can be severely disruptive. Please consider if you need to leave your tools in the van overnight or can they be transferred to a secured building? If tools need to remain in the van, what additional security can you add to put your van in the ‘too hard’ or ‘too risky’ category for criminals. Have you an alarm fitted? Have you fitted and used additional external locks? Are your tools security marked?
