If you had a problem with food collections today and your food caddy was not emptied today I apologise.

There will be a catch-up collection in our areas on Monday. Please either leave your bins out until Monday or put them out again on Sunday evening. If you leave the bin out do make sure it is properly closed (lid latched shut).

The amount of food waste being presented has increased significantly and we’re not able to get it all on the lorries. Food collection problems today all because we ran out of capacity. Crews now have to do 2 or 3 runs to drop-off of food and they’re running out of time before the drop-off sites close at 5pm.

Unfortunately we’re unable to do a catch-up collection Saturday as the lorries and depot need to be deep-cleaned (sterilised) tomorrow before they are used again next week.

There are extra “big” 26-tonne vehicles going out next week to give us much more food capacity. We are also exploring what changes we can make to the new recycling lorries quickly so that we can create more storage for food.
