From PCSO Debbie Collicott Stroud Police;
We are aware of hundreds of reports of scams where victims receive an automated call claiming their personal details have been fraudulently used to subscribe to a Amazon Prime subscription. They are told they can cancel the transaction by pressing no.1. However, when they do this they are automatically connected to criminals posing as Amazon service reps. These people then remotely access victims computers at which point the criminals can steal their personal and financial details.
Have the confidence to refuse requests for personal information. If it doesn’t feel right it generally isn’t.
If in doubt contact the company concerned directly.
Unsolicited requests for remote access to your computer should ALWAYS be refused.
