Sustainability Networking Evening

by andrewdoherty on 8 October, 2019

Thanks to the NCR3Rs group for organising a great event – lots of useful questions and discussion. Talk with residents about how we can work together more effectively to improve recycling and reduce waste. Communicating what’s important and what helps the 3Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – is a key task for me in my CDC role.

Speakers Inspire and Inform at Inaugural Sustainability Community Meeting.
We had 2 great guest speakers at our Sustainability networking evening. Our thanks go to Andrew Doherty, District Councillor and Cabinet Member for Waste, Flooding and Environmental Health who gave an excellent talk explaining how CDC’s recycling services work and Frances Hamilton, who lives in Stow on the Wold and spoke about her work as a volunteer collector for TerraCycle. Andrew demystified a lot of preconceptions about recycling and Fran inspired us all with her dedication and enthusiasm which encouraged some volunteers on the night to get involved with TerraCycle. The event underscored the need to share information to help us all make better choices. A key message was that recycling can only go so far – the most effective things we can do is to reduce the amount of single-use-plastic we consume in the first place.
