Shed and Garage Breaks (Gloucestershire Constabulary)

by andrewdoherty on 14 May, 2019

In recent weeks there have been a number of shed breaks throughout the Cotswold area. Offender(s) have been accessing the rear of properties and have been breaking the locks off garage/ shed doors and taking push bikes.

The crimes that have been reported tell us that the offender(s) have been committing the crimes at night when it is dark.

Please take into consideration the below crime prevention advice:
-Make sure all gates are shut and locked
-Wheelie bins are not placed near the gate – this stops easy access to offenders as they can use the bins to climb over a gate
-Put a “DANGER DOG LOOSE” sign on the gate (even if you don’t have a dog)
-Put a CCTV in use sticker in a visible place (even if you don’t have CCTV)
-Return any tools to the shed or garage after use
-Photograph and make a copy of serial numbers of valuable items
-Installing motion sensor lights outside your property that can be seen from inside the property when lit.
-Installing a shed alarm
-Installing CCTV or dummy CCTV cameras.
-Putting anti climb paint or defence strips on top of fences/ walls (defence strips –  these are hard plastic strips which have points on them to stop offenders grabbing hold of the top of the fence)
-Push bikes should be locked to a ground anchor or shed shackled. Push bikes should also be marked and registered with www.bikeregister.com

I can reassure you that patrols have been increased in the evenings for this area by the police. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate in contacting us. You can do this by replying to this Community Alert, visiting our website or contacting the force control room on 101.

Kind Regards

PCSO Chloe Williams 9274
